This is a premium Pu-erh raw (Sheng 生) cake made of leaves harvested from the ancient tea trees in the Yi-Wu area, manufactured by Tong-Xing brand.
Pu-erh tea has been know historically as having six governing mountain ranges and four major tea houses/brands. Tong-Xing tea house being one of them. It first appeared in the Yi-Wu village in 1733. It has gone through many ups and downs, name modified a couple of times, almost completely inundated after world war II, yet has been resurrected by the family decedents during the recent decades.
This limited collection of Pu-erh a premium grade raw cakes were produced in 2006 using tea leaves harvested from the ancient tea trees of the Yi-Wu area. The Yi-Wu teas are known to be: brew clear, bright and light yellow in colour; fruity aroma; flavour soft, mellowing and long lasting. The cakes have been fermenting naturally for 10 years, yielding premium aged Pu-erh teas unique natural fragrance. As seen in the image, the colour of the original fresh green raw tea has already turned into deep rich brown. It is a premium raw tea sufficiently aged, ready to be consumed or collected to age further.
Due to the age of these tea cakes, there might be some damage to the traditionally very thin wrapping paper as a result of transportation and storage. This is almost inevitable to all aged Pu-erh teas.
